Weekly Awesome: X Marks the Spot – Mapping in Mozambique

Peace Corps Mozambique graciously opened up their maps to Chad Blevins from USAID’s GeoCenter and Courtney Clark from Peace Corps’ Office of Innovaitons for a two day mapping training with Peace Corps Mozambique staff, volunteers, and representatives from Abt Associates!  Participants spent the weekend mapping out the city Quelimane in the northern province of Zambezia.  Having the highest prevalence rate in the country (54.8%), both Peace Corps and President’s Malaria Initiative have placed a focus on increasing malaria activities throughout the province.  Learning different mapping techniques and platforms, participants will take the knowledge they learned and transfer it to mapping out their sites.  President’s Malaria Initiative has a list of high priority sites where Abt Associates will conduct their IRS Spray Campaign.   Peace Corps Volunteers will work with their communities and the Abt Associates Zambezia team to count able structures for their upcoming 2016 IRS campaign.  Map On!
