Sierra Leone

Country Profile

Stomping Out Malaria has come to Sierra Leone! The 80+ Peace Corps Volunteers living in villages throughout the country will soon be trained to educate both students and community members about malaria prevention, transmission, and treatment.

We intend to use our resources in the field to learn more about the detrimental impact malaria is having on Sierra Leone’s economical and educational growth. Using this information and other data collected by our partners, we will implement a number of proven techniques used by volunteers across Africa.

There are too many people in Sierra Leone dying from this preventable disease, especially pregnant women and children under five. By dispelling myths, spreading awareness, and encouraging action, Peace Corps Salone plans to do its part to eradicate malaria by the end of the decade.
